So my project this week was a monogram key holder for my sister in law. It was super easy and I did it all in one day, start to finish. My supplies were initials from Michael's (found in the dollar section), a ready to finish wooden plaque, some scrapbook paper, Mod Podge, paint and cement glue. The total cost was around $6. ($2 per letter, everything else I had on hand.)
The first thing I did was take my wooden plaque and paint it. My sister in law told me her favorite colors were purple and grey so I used those colors. I did grey for the center and purple for the trim.
The shades used were Dark Grey and Eggplant Purple.
While the paint was drying, I mod podged the scrapbook paper onto my letters. Then I carefully cut around with an exacto knife and used a nail file to get any loose pieces. This part was a little tricky since the letters had some curves in them. I did my sister in law's initials, their last initial and then my brother in law's initial.
Here's a close-up of one of the letters. I really liked this paper because I felt like it fit the colors wonderfully.
After my paint dried and the letters were finished, I used my cement glue to attach the letters to the plaque. The hooks on the bottom of the plaque actually came attached to the letters, I just unscrewed them from there and put them on the plaque using the same screws. I really like the way it turned out, I don't think this picture does it justice.
I know my sister in law will love it and I can't wait to give it to her! Too bad her birthday isn't until March!
